Current Prediction:

Jesuit OR

Crater OR

* Rocky Mountain ID

Note: The region has some legitimate national players this fall, and more than two. Jesuit is running at near the same level as 2021 when the Crusaders placed third nationally. Senior Jacob Nenow, the son of former American 10,000 meters record holder Mark Nenow, enjoyed a strong performance last weekend in Eugene on the way to his first state title and, surprisingly, the first for Jesuit. Crater of Central Point will try to erase previous disappointment at NXR Northwest with a potent lineup that is led by Washington signee Tyrone Gorze, who broke the Oregon state meet course record last weekend. Rocky Mountain of Idaho is another Top-10 team in the country and perhaps the best in Idaho history. No school will understand the nuances of Eagle Island State Park better than Rocky Mountain, which is located just a couple of miles away and won the Bob Firman Invitational in September. Rocky Mountain is a serious threat to win the region, led by junior Landon Heemeyer and senior Tyler Sainsbury. Beyond those three, Oregon has a couple more stout contenders with strong lineups through five, including Oregon 6A runner-up Lincoln of Portland and third-place team West Salem, which won the NXR Northwest Open division last year. Washington's top teams, including 4A champion Issaquah, 3A champion Seattle Prep, and potentially dangerous Bishop Blanchet, could all be factors but need the back end of their lineups to take a step forward from last week's Washington state meet in Pasco. A number of strong individuals from the state, including Zack Munson, Cruize Corvin, Conner Wirth and Ethan Pedersen are all in the hunt for individual berths. Oregon has additional standouts in Alex Garcia-Silver from Marshfield and Logan Law from Milwaukie. Wes Shipsey will also attempt to rebound after a difficult state meet last week for Central Catholic. Matthew Thomas from Blackfoot ID, Weston Brown of Bozeman MT and Habtamu Wetzel and Owen Burnett from Wyoming are also ones to watch.

DyeStat preseason picks to qualify for NXN:

Jesuit OR

Boise Senior ID

Current Prediction:

Jesuit OR

Summit OR

Notes: After having four teams represent the region in 2019, the second time in the history of the event the Northwest had four qualifiers at the national meet including 2005, the same level of depth is not present this year. But there is an opportunity for NXN veterans Jesuit and Summit to represent the host state after capturing Class 6A and Class 5A state championships, respectively, Nov. 5 at the Lane Community College course. Jesuit is looking to add to its regional record with a 10th appearance at the national event and Summit is in position to match Bozeman from Montana for second all-time in the Northwest by qualifying for NXN for a fifth time. Lincoln, which earned an at-large selection in 2019 to make its first NXN appearance, is a third Oregon team in contention. Among the Washington programs with aspirations to advance to nationals, only Class 3A runner-up Gig Harbor has previously qualified, and that was competing at Nike Team Nationals in 2005. Central Kitsap, the Washington Class 3A champion, is seeking its first trip to Glendoveer Golf Course, along with Class 4A second-place finisher Issaquah, which was edged in the state final by Tahoma on a sixth-runner tiebreaker. Boise Senior from Idaho, which qualified in 2005 and 2018, has plenty of experience competing at Eagle Island State Park, but the Class 5A champion isn’t expected to have junior Samantha Smith in its lineup, potentially opening the door for state runner-up Rocky Mountain to put itself in contention to qualify. Boise will still be well represented up front with junior Allie Bruce, along with Idaho Class 4A state champion Nelah Roberts of Skyline and Class 5A third-place finisher Paisley Taylor from Meridian. Washington will be represented by an exceptional collection of individual standouts, with Class 4A winner Anna Callahan of Skyline, Class 3A champion Reese Morkert of Gig Harbor and Logan Hofstee of East Valley, who captured the Class 2A crown. Clare Herring of Central Kitsap, Jessica Frydenlund of Anacortes and Eliza White of Curtis Senior are also potential qualifiers for NXN representing Washington. Despite the absence of Lake Oswego senior and Oregon signee Kate Peters, there will be several standouts from the state expected to compete. Ana Peters, Kate’s younger sister, captured the Class 6A individual crown, with Emily Wisniewski of Crescent Valley winning the Class 5A state title. Maura O’Scannlain will lead Jesuit’s pursuit of an NXN team berth, with Ella McGillis of Central Catholic also scheduled to race, in addition to Keira Saavedra of Lincoln and Ella Thorsett from Summit. Claire Rutherford of Gallatin, the Montana Class AA champion, is also entered, along with Wyoming Class 4A winner Sydney Morrell of Cheyenne Central. Campbell Peterson of Chugiak, the Alaska Division 1 champion, is also scheduled to compete.
